Them Crooked Vultures, advertised as the “super group” at Friday’s ACL show, consisting of the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme on guitar, and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards. They have an air of secrecy about their show, no music has been released yet, neither an EP or any tracks on MySpace.
In particular, the photographers that came to see and shoot Them Crooked Vultures had to sign special release forms which were checked not once but many times over. Photographers usually get to take pictures from the pit for three songs, this was reduced to two songs with MANY warnings by the pit staff. It felt like we were going to see a resurrected John Lennon come on stage! The songs don’t seem that great, maybe this super group will go the way of other super groups. I must say, that Dave Grohl is one hell of a performer though. It’s hard to put in words, but he’s a character. One day he is going to demolish one of his drums on stage with his enormous power and energy. Maybe his drum sets are reinforced.
