Monday night March 8, John Mayer brought his Battle Studies world tour to the Frank Erwin Center. I counted no less than 10 trailer trucks in the parking lot to haul his touring equipment. That is a lot of stuff for “a guy with a guitar” concert! But I guess big stars need big equipment. The stage in the Frank Erwin protruded forward with a slight semi circle, the stage was large enough to fit a symphony orchestra on it.
As John walked on stage he did not mess around with small talk or “Hello Austin”, but went straight to what he does best and that is playing his blues-rock, with songs such as “Heartbreak Warfare”. His technique seems flawless and no matter what you think of the gossip he creates for himself, he plays beautifully.
